We have an opportunity for a Scientist or Senior Scientist in the lab of Dr. Charles Roberts in the Department of Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.   The Roberts lab studies chromatin-mediated regulation of gene expression. We focus upon the SWI/SNF (BAF) chromatin remodeling/tumor suppressor complex and its relationship to cancers. Genes encoding subunits of the SWI/SNF complex are mutated in over 20% of all cancers making it the most frequently mutated chromatin regulator in human malignancies. We seek to discover the mechanisms by which SWI/SNF complex facilitates regulation of gene expression and lineage specification, and the mechanisms by which mutation of SWI/SNF subunits drives cancer formation.  We also seek to identify specific vulnerabilities that are conferred by SWI/SNF mutations with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic opportunities, an area in which we have already been successful.     We seek an ambitious scientist with a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, and/or genetics/epigenetics of tumorigenesis. Currently there are several projects ongoing in the laboratory involving the use of a variety of model systems that have been engineered in the lab including mouse models, primary cells, and cell lines as well as the use of large sequencing, CRISPR, and drug vulnerability data sets.
