St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is looking for Senior Application Systems Engineer: Image Data Science (HPC Engineer II) to support innovative high-performance biomedical image data processing, management, and visualization systems. The successful candidate is passionate about setup, monitoring and maintenance of cutting-edge Scientific Computing and software applications  systems supporting St. Jude’s basic research program. This individual will have the opportunity to work within a highly motivated international team of scientists and software engineers to transition data processing pipelines to Cloud and High-Performance Computing (HPC). Examples of applications supported: Computational systems for Machine Learning (ML) using GPUs, close-to-real-time computer vision processing, SaaS systems, and large-scale scientific data visualization. The successful candidate will work with, and further shape, a growing dynamic team with Dr. Khaled Khairy in St. Jude’s new Center for Bioimage Informatics. Experience working in a basic research environment, open-source software projects, image processing, and HPC/Cloud applications is a plus.

The position is an opportunity to administer, and further build, a versatile high-performance polyglot of scientific computing systems that advance this basic research enterprise at the bleeding edge. Examples of projects supported by the Center for Bioimage Informatics include image restoration and reconstruction, animal trackers, virtual reality environments, real-time processing for emerging imaging technologies and high-content screens, machine learning on HPC and Cloud, and multi-dimensional data visualization.



Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required
  • Master's Degree is preferred

Minimum Experience

  • Six (6) years directly applicable systems administration and integration experience is required
  • Two (2) years of systems administration experience is acceptable with a Master's Degree
  • Experience supporting systems and applications infrastructure within a virtual infrastructure is required
  • Experience with using and supporting Linux in a research computing environment is required
  • Experience in HPC, Cloud and Edge/Fog computing is a plus
  • Experience with collaborative open-source software projects is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge in shell scripting is a plus
  • Experience administering SaaS and data management systems is a plus
  • Experience providing computational support to customers is preferred
