As a Scientist/Sr. Scientist in the Cell & Tissue Imaging Center, you will work with a dynamic team of PhD-level staff to drive quantitative imaging applications, including Forster resonance energy transfer imaging, fluorescence lifetime imaging, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, single molecule localization microscopy, and single particle tracking.  The Center emphasizes collaborative interactions (rather than ‘fee-for-service’), and the ideal candidate will be able to provide expert-level advice on all facets of the imaging process, from experimental design through data analysis.  Authorship-level contributions are encouraged through science-oriented workflows and minimal recharge requirements.  The overarching goal of research at St Jude is to discover transformative cures for childhood disease.

The ideal canididate will have

  • Expert-level knowledge on the theory and practice of quantitative fluorescence imaging or spectroscopic techniques, including FRET, FLIM, FCS, ICS, SMLM, and SPT, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
  • In depth understanding of related data analysis methods, such as phasor plots, curve fitting, auto- and cross-correlation, spatial statistics, and Markov models.
  • Demonstrated coding ability to automate or refine image data analysis using Java, Matlab, or Python.  Experience with FIJI tools desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with related dyes/stains/probes and sample preparation protocols.
  • Broad understanding of imaging optics and other imaging modalities.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative concepts to non-specialists in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Outstanding organizational, record keeping, and multi-tasking skills.

Microscopy lab

  • Advise and train St Jude researchers on all steps of the imaging process, from experimental design through data analysis.
  • Ensure collection of publication quality data from the outset.
  • Keep instruments of responsibility calibrated and performing optimally.  Arrange service as needed.
  • Build collaborative scientific relationships.
  • Assist in presentation of workshops that encourage use of quantitative imaging experiments.
  • Be intellectually curious.  Stay up to date on latest advances in the field.
  • Abide by highest standards of integrity and respect.
