Overview

A Senior Bioinformatics Portal Engineer position is immediately available for a highly motivated candidate to lead the development of cutting-edge web-based applications as part of St. Jude’s groundbreaking platform, St. Jude Cloud. This team member will work directly with world-class researchers at St. Jude to devise novel web applications for working with integrated multi-omics and imaging data for a user base ranging from oncologists to bioinformatics research scientists.

 

This position requires staying abreast of emerging technologies, platforms, frameworks, and bioinformatics web applications to create the standard for sharing biomedical data with researchers around the world. The successful candidate will have experience in modern back- and front-end technologies such as Node.js/Express, PHP/Laravel, Ruby on Rails, and modern JavaScript frameworks. Experience in database design and programming is preferred. Experience in Bioinformatics and Biomedical Imaging is preferred. The candidate is expected to be a creative and critical thinker and a quick learner for new domains and technologies.

 

Recognized as a world leader in mapping the genetic landscape of pediatric cancers, the St. Jude department of Computational Biology has developed state-of-art computational infrastructure, well-established analytical pipelines, and deep genomic analysis expertise with a track record of high-impact publications in top-tier biomedical journals such as Nature, NEJM, JAMA, Nature Genetics, and Nature Methods. The department provides a highly interactive environment with collaborative opportunities across basic and clinical departments, access to high performance computing clusters, cloud computing environment, innovative visualization tools, highly automated analytical pipelines and mentorship from faculty scientists with deep experience in data analysis, data management, and delivery of high-quality results for highly competitive projects. This position is located in Memphis, TN, and relocation assistance is available.

RESPON_Bioinformatics

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field is required
  • Master's degree or PHD is preferred

Minimum Experience

  • Eight (8) years of internet development experience is required
  • Four (4) years of internet development experience is required with a Master's degree
  • Zero years of internet development experience may be acceptable with a PhD.Experience in PHP, JavaScript, modern JavaScript frameworks, and AJAX preferred
  • Experience with Node.js/Express, PHP/Laravel, Ruby on Rails, and/or modern JavaScrip is preferred
  • Experience in Object Oriented Programming preferred.Experience in Database Design and Programming preferred.Experience in Bioinformatics preferred
