  • Overview

    The laboratory of Shengdar Q. Tsai is seeking outstanding, highly motivated, and creative candidates for a Research Lab Specialist to define and improve genome editing strategies for treatment of sickle cell disease and cancer immunotherapy.

     

    You will have the opportunity to learn about and support new exciting projects such as:

    • Develop new genomic methods to understand the global biological effects of genome editing
    • Perform functional epigenomic profiling to define the relationship between genome-wide editing activity in vitro and in cells
    • Optimizing pre-clinical CRISPR-Cas gene editing strategies for induction of fetal hemoglobin as a therapeutic replacement for sickle adult hemoglobin.

     

    In this position, you will gain extensive experience and training in gene editing, epigenomics, protein engineering, and high-throughput genome biology.

    Minimum Education

    Successful applicants will have excellent communication skills, and a B.S. or equivalent degree in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, hematology, or a related area. To succeed in this position, you will have a strong molecular and cell biology background, with an emphasis on molecular cloning and genetic manipulation of mammalian cells. Applicants with experience in any of the following strongly encouraged to apply: human hematopoietic stem cells, human T-cells, genome editing, genomics, next-generation sequencing, or automated liquid handling.

    Minimum Experience

    • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant post-degree work experience, with at least five (5) years at the Sr. Research Tech level, is required with a Bachelor's degree
    • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience, with at least (5) years at the Sr. Research Tech level, is required with a Master's degree
    • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience including post-doctoral and/or technical staff experience is required with a Ph.D
    • BS/MS staff at the Senior Research Technologist level as of 5/12/2003 could be considered for promotion to Research Lab Specialist after five (5) years as a SJCRH Senior Research Technologist or an equivalent position in a similar research environment.
