Patient Business Services is proud to be able to significantly contribute to the mission of St. Jude - to find cures for children with catastrophic illnesses through research and treatment.  In the role of Senior Insurance Billing Specialist, you can support the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by compliantly procuring reimbursement of patient-care-related funds, via timely and accurate billing to financially responsible insurance companies while striving to maintain excellence, confidentiality and professionalism.


    Work Schedule: Monday -Friday 8:00am -5:00pm


    The Insurance Billing Specialist is responsible for the accounts receivable functions related to professional fee billing. This position is primarily responsible for

    • Investigating and analyzing payor remittance advices regarding denials and reimbursement discrepancies on assigned Medicaid and Tenncare accounts
    • Resolves complex payer inquiries and other billing procedural discrepancies including payor no-response reports
    • Contacts insurance companies and other ancillary hospital departments for information needed to correct claims in order to receive optimal reimbursement
    • Performs charge entry, claims processing, and line-item payment posting
    • Coordinates claims editing software and application processes for identifying and correcting claims submission/payment errors

    Minimum Education

    • High School diploma required.
    • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience preferred.

    Minimum Experience

    • Two (2) years professional fee billing experience directed toward accounts receivable management, automated patient accounts systems, and insurance recovery processes required.
    • Experience and familiarity with revenue cycle process with primary emphasis on denial resolution, insurance appeals, claims processing, data entry, and line-item payment preferred.
    • Familiar with billing/coding process, ICD-9 and CPT coding requirements and prior experience operating automated physician-billing systems preferred.
    • Experience in a large multi-specialty group practice or academic setting preferred.
    • IDX experience a plus.

    Other Credentials

    • Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist preferred
