  • Overview

    St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Cell and Tissue Imaging Center – Electron Microscopy is a dynamic facility housing state of the art electron microscopes and preparatory equipment.  The Center supports SJCRH principal investigators, providing expert consultation and the publication quality results needed to achieve their research goals.  The Center provides standard TEM and SEM evaluation of samples as well as 3-dimensional imaging of samples at the ultrastructural level.  The ideal candidate will learn and develop protocols tailored to the specific needs of biological systems, particularly in the realm of 3-dimensional imaging and analysis.  They will, in consultation with the Center director, contribute intellectually to the design and execution of experiments and participate in the publication of results.  The candidate will be responsible for managing various laboratory operations, including the training of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and technicians in electron microscopy methodologies and instrument operation.  As needed to support the research, they will search out and evaluate new and innovative technologies in the electron microscopy field.  Prior experience with sample preparation for SBSEM or ssTEM and/or volume reconstruction and analysis is desirable.  Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department.

    Minimum Education

    • High School Diploma/GED required. Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred

    Minimum Experience

    • Eight (8) years of experience in the field of research required; or four (4) years of experience with an Associate's degree in a related field required or a Bachelor's degree in a related field required if appropriate skills are obtained through course of study.
    • Electron microscopy experience( including microscope maintenance, 3D electron microscopy and tomography with an emphasis in computer programming and analysis) preferred.

    Other Credentials

    • Certification in electron microscopy by the Microscopy Society of America or certification as either a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry preferred
