    Responsibilities

    The recently expanded Department of Structural Biology is seeking a highly motivated X-ray Crystallography Staff Scientist to meet the hospital’s growing demand for collaborative structural studies. Under the leadership of the Biomolecular X-ray Crystallography Center Director, the candidate will design and execute independent X-ray crystallographic analysis of proteins of high importance to the St. Jude mission.


    Responsibilities and Essential Job Duties

    • Collaborate with St. Jude researchers across the institution; independently carry-out protein crystallization, data collection and processing, structure determination, refinement, post-structure analysis, and manuscript preparation wherever necessary.
    • Assist with synchrotron data collection and provide training for use; St. Jude has routine remote access to the Southeast Regional Collaborative Access Team (SER-CAT) beam-line at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) that is shared among numerous St. Jude crystallographers.
    • Help maintain departmental crystallization resource instruments.
    • Train St. Jude graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in all aspects of X-ray crystallography, various aspects of structural biology, and manuscript preparation upon request by St. Jude faculty.
    • Communicate effectively with collaborators and the various Core Technology Center Staff to plan and execute multiple projects in an efficient manner and publish results.
    • Develop innovative strategies to achieve the highest research goals possible.
    • Participate in continuing education opportunities including attendance at meetings and workshops.

    Minimum Education

    • A Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field is required

    Minimum Experience

    • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant and productive post degree research associate experience is required
    • Expertise in all aspects of macromolecular X-ray Crystallography
    • Experience in membrane protein crystallography is preferred
