The focus of the Obeng Lab is the study of aberrant hematopoiesis. We are specifically interested in how hematopoietic stem cells maintain their adult stem cell state, how they differentiate into various types of mature blood cells, and how these cells are transformed into cancer cells. Our studies are performed using patient samples, in vivo models of myeloid malignancies, and human and murine cell lines.
Responsibilities of the position will include assisting the principal investigator with the collection and analysis of data for specified research projects. Qualified applicants are expected to be able to perform molecular biology laboratory experiments with minimal supervision and to learn and develop new procedures. They should be able to properly conduct specific projects, maintain efficient laboratory operations, and train new laboratory personnel. Qualified applicants will be encouraged and expected to demonstrate an effort to increase their knowledge of a specific area of research and to participate in the presentation and/or publication of research results. They should also be able to perform additional duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Bachelor's degree, with at least seven (7) years at the Research Lab Specialist level
A minimum of fourteen (14) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree, with at least seven (7) years at the Research Lab Specialist level
A minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience including post-doctoral and/or technical staff experience is required with Ph.D.
NOTE: BS/MS level staff at Research Lab Specialist level as of 05/12/2003 could be considered for promotion to Associate Scientist after seven (7) years as a St. Jude Research Lab Specialist or an equivalent position in a similar research environment.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field is required.
