Overview

The primary purpose of the Computational Engineer position is to develop, optimize and apply algorithms, software and computational/visualization tools for complex applications in basic science and translational biomedical research. The Computational Engineer is responsible for the development, deployment, and management of scientific applications and computational/visualization tools on research computing systems in the SJCRH High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) in support of SJCRH basic science and translational research programs. Working with the HPCF staff, the Computational Engineer will assist SJCRH researchers and their staff in the development, porting, optimization, debugging, and modification of application codes and computational/visualization tools to run on the HPCF research computing systems with optimal performance. Additional responsibility includes serving as the primary point of contact for SJCRH’s data processing and scientific visualization resource needs for SJCRH imaging researchers.  The Computational Engineer will assist in the development of operational aspects of data processing and scientific visualization resources.

Minimum Experience

Two (2) years of scientific computing and/or algorithm/application development experience in a scientific research environment is required.

Compensated internship and/or research assistantship experience in high performance computing, image processing, scientific programming and/or computational algorithm/methodology development during Master's degree and/or Doctorate program will be counted toward required experience.

Previous experience with parallel software development in a high performance computing environment is preferred.

Minimum Education

Master's Degree in Computational Science, Computational Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is required.

A Doctorate in Computational Science, Computational Mathematics, Computer Engineering or Computer Science with experience in high performance computing, image processing and/or scientific visualization is preferred.

Other Credentials

Registration, certification (or equivalent) in area of specialty preferred.
